Arturo Davila's Top 5 And Bottom 3 Movies

Movies I Like
Movie #1:
Title: Clerks
Starring:  Brian O’ Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith
Movie Summary: This is a low budgeted black and white movie about two guys working at a convenience store.  The story centers around Dante Hicks who is forced to do his job at the Quickstop for the day with his fellow store clerk Randal Graves. The plot goes about their day in the store and the people in it and the conversations that pop up. It also deals with Dante’s relationship problems. The movie ends with the two closing the store and Dante gong to fix his relationship at home.
Movie Review: This movie was a different type of comedy. It showed the funny side of real life and featured conversations that were funny and obscene but you were likely to hear them in real life. It showed what any store worker probably said about you when your back was turned. I recommend this movie to anyone who has a sense of humor.

Movie #2:
Title: Watchmen
Starring: Jackie Earl Haley, Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup
Movie Summary: This movie takes place in an alternate world where superheroes exist, Nixon got a third term, and the Cold War dawns closer to a nuclear holocaust. The movie starts when a hero named The Comedian is murdered and his former teammates come out of retirement to investigate. As the plot continues, the investigation reveals that the culprit was Ozymandias who wants to bring world peace through global mass murder. After the deed is done Rorschach tries to reveal the plot to the world but is killed. The ending shows the newspaper editor about to pick up Rorschach’s journal, which reveals everything.
Movie Review: This movie showed me a very bleak world. Everyone once in their life wished that superheroes existed. This movie shows the dark result of if they actually did exist. Rorschach is a real-life representation of Batman, who in real life would be crazy.  Dr. Manhattan is a Superman-like character who loses touch with humanity since he can do anything. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys action, mystery, and drama.

Movie #3:
Title: The Shawshank Redemption
Starring: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman
Movie Summary:  The plot centers on Andy Dufresne who is falsely thrown in Shawshank prison for the murder of his wife and her lover. There, he meets fellow inmate Red and they become friends. The movie continues with them and the harsh and corrupt life in prison. Later, they meet an inmate who can prove Andy’s innocence. The inmate is then killed by the warden who abuses Andy’s knowledge of banking for personal gain. Andy escapes soon after to Mexico but not before exposing the warden. The movie ends with Red reuniting with Andy at Mexico.
Movie Review: The movie is interesting because it shows that man can still hold hope in a hopeless situation. It also shows the depressing life of a released long-term inmate. The movie also shows the value of friendship in depressing situations and the level of corruption that happened in prison at that time. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes drama.

Movie #4:
Title: Forrest Gump
Starring: Tom Hanks
Movie Summary: This movie is about the life of a mentally “slow” man named Forrest Gump who stumbles along various important historical events. He also encounters his childhood friend Jenny who eventually becomes a drug addict and a hippie. He then finds out that Jenny had his child and soon marry. But she dies from an unknown disease and he is then in charge of taking care of their child. The movie ends with Forrest watching his son go to school on the school bus.
Movie Review: This movie interested me because it showed that no matter how smart you are, you can achieve the American dream. It also showed the sadness of post-Vietnam War veterans through Lieutenant Dan. This movie is a modern-day fairy tale and I recommend it to anyone who likes drama.

Movie #5:
Title: V For Vendetta
Starring: Hugo Weaving, Natalie Portman
Movie Summary: The plot surrounds a woman named Every Hammond in England, which has turned into a fascist state. When she is about to be arrested by the secret police she meets V, a man in a Guy Fawkes mask who uses anarchy to fight the government. Over the course of the movie, he gathers other followers to stand up against the government. In the end, V dies but not before destroying the fascist government by blowing up Parliament.

Movie Review: The movie made an impact on me by making me wonder if anarchy is justified if a government oversteps its boundaries. The movie also interested me because throughout the whole movie, we never know V’s identity. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes action, suspense, and drama.

Movies I Hate

Movie # 1:
Title:  Meet The Spartans
Starring: Sean Maguire, Carmen Electra, Ken Davitian
Movie Summary: The plot centers on Leonidus as he tries to defend Sparta with 13 soldiers. He has to fight the army of Xerxes, Paris Hilton, Ghost Rider, Rocky Balboa, and the Transformers. The movie ends with Leonidus dying and a soldier attacking Lindsay Lohan instead of the Xerxes army.
Movie Review: This movie once again makes cheep gags that we have seen already. The gay jokes were funny in the beginning but they get old really fast. If you truly wish to see a funny movie, throw this in your trash and watch the Monty Python movies instead.
Movie # 2:
Title: Twilight
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson
Movie Summary: The movie centers around Isabella Swan who moved to a town named Forks. The then falls in love with a real-life vampire named Edward Cullen who only consumes animal blood. She then has to run from “actual” vampires who Edward fights. In the end they go to the prom and Isabella tells Edward she wants to become a vampire.
Movie Review: This movie has to be the sappiest love story I have ever seen. It has fight scenes but they downright suck. The author of the book must have no idea how vampires work. I mean, what type of vampire sparkles in sunlight? If you want to watch a real vampire movie, see 30 Days Of Night and throw this thing in the trash where it belongs.
Movie #3:
Title: Disaster Movie
Starring: Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minillo
Movie Summary: The movie is a parody about Will, Lisa, and two of their friends. They attempt to save the world from natural disasters. Along the way they meet people like Batman, Indiana Jones, and a very rabid band of talking chipmunks. The movie ends with them singing a song before being crushed by a falling cow.
Movie Review: The movie was extremely dumb. It did cheep gags that we have seen in the other “Movie” parodies. It also makes stupid parodies of movies that do not make any sense or are funny in the slightest. My advice to you is if you buy it throw it on the ground, light a match, and burn it right there. You will not be missing much.
